BASF and Google Cloud report using AlphaEvolve with prognostica to develop supply-chain simulation logic. Starting from a seed program and three years of inventory, demand and production history, the AI coding agent generated and evaluated algorithm variations against historical operations.
How it went
The initial runs reportedly improved accuracy by more than 80% relative to the seed model. That measures historical simulation fit for a tested product value chain; it is not an 80% operational improvement or proof of full-network production optimization. Broader decision support remained an objective.
Worth knowing
- The evaluation rewarded matching recorded inventory and production decisions. Reproducing history and choosing a better future plan require different checks.
- For your desk: Keep the seed baseline, held-out periods and inventory-error measure visible when evaluating a digital twin. Test a disruption scenario before using simulated safety-stock changes in an operating plan.

Supporting evidence and review
Human review required
- Practical review advice: verify answers or recommendations against the original records and operating constraints.
- Confirm provider access, integrations and human exception ownership before considering adoption.
Evidence & limitations
- Company/provider-reported use; Freight Fieldnotes has not independently tested this deployment.
- No public reproducible prompt or independently verified accuracy is supplied.
- Reported initial simulations, not proof of full-network production optimization. Broader operational decision support remains a stated objective.
