Kodiak reports Atlas Energy Solutions operating driverless triple-trailer trucks to carry frac sand from depots to well sites in the Permian Basin. Its AI driving system accounts for trailer movement, braking and load mass; routes require approval for this configuration.
How it went
The August 2026 provider account reports more than 1,400 triple-trailer loads since a February launch. It describes triples within a 35-truck driverless fleet as of June 30, without saying all 35 used triples. A 100-truck fleet remained planned, and this is not an independent safety evaluation.
Worth knowing
- The operation concerns approved oil-field routes rather than general highway availability. Load specialists enter trailer counts, with a separate estimator checking that input.
- For your desk: Verify trailer configuration, load conditions and route-approval expiry before dispatch; keep loading and incident response within the fleet’s operating procedures.

Supporting evidence and review
Human review required
- Practical review advice: validate trailer configuration, route approval and operating limits before dispatch.
- Keep incident response and loading oversight within the responsible fleet’s procedures.
Evidence & limitations
- Provider-published deployment report; no independent safety evaluation by Freight Fieldnotes.
- Operations are described in the Permian Basin, not as general highway availability.
- A planned 100-truck fleet is not counted as deployed.
